Certail buttons are HUGE in height and girth -iceweasel tabs, my Home, Back, Forward button, etc, BUT it's not limited to iceweasel: The top icons in Rox-filer, and any rclick icons from any app. Could someone tell me how the sizes can be redused? One other issue that seems related to this is in iceweasel: the 'Addons' bar at the bottom of the page if VERY tall taking up a LOT of space -I'd love to reduce this if anyone knows how.

So yeah -I'd like to ,ini,ize some of that lost space but I'm not sure where to start looking.

this is a function/problem of the icon set you chose in lxappearance. You need to choose a different icon set. I believe you've chosen gtangish 2.0 or similar. Its a large icon set. You may want to try gtango (google it) for a similar but regular sized icon set.

You are, indeed, an oracle -I had set the icons via 'Customize Look and Feel' -I went and found the regular gtango as you suggested; installed it; and voila!
