I was really busy with work stuff when 7.5 was getting ready, and could only revise the old FAQs a bit at the end after anti did most of the work. But I have been wanting to add some advanced items to it that have come up on the forum, and thought maybe we can start collecting topics and their threads now. I have these already:
  • siduxing antiX
  • making Samba work
  • Mount M$ Windows in /home through fstab
What widely applicable FAQs would you add to that list? TIA

We just got a question about setting the correct time. The person asking the question claimed that the standard facility in the Control Center (Centre) did not help him. Perhaps a discussion about the preferred way to set time, and some debugging techniques to use if there are still problems would be helpful.

I did run across my system being initially set to GMT time and was not asked for my Time Zone when I first installed, so I suspect that others are going to run across this. We may also want to think about including a way to set the time as part of the installation for future releases. Though in the Control Centre, if it was there in the installation I somehow went right past it. But since I had to make changes, and I had to do some poking around to find it, I think this may become a frequent question, if it isn't already.

I have not read the current FAQ, so if you have already addressed this, please forgive my ignorance. Thanks for taking on this task. It is much appreciated!

I was going to do a wright up about changing cursor themes then I stumbled across this post. Why reinvent the wheel?

I just posted a response to him. Maybe that's something you can use Jerry.

Thanks, eriefisher. Not sure yet how deep into advanced topics we want to go, but that was a nice solution.

The solution provided by eriefisher certainly would work (thanks for the response and the cross reference, eriefisher). Whether we want to include solutions that"advanced" or whether we want to come up with easier menu or click based solutions, I do believe that we ought to have a clear cookbook solution to the setting and fixing of time and time zone settings somewhere in our documentation, plus an improved solution in a future version of the software. I appreciate both of your contributions and your efforts to make our system and our solution better and better with each iteration. Good job, gentlemen!

Thanks Jerry for starting this thread and masinick and eriefisher for contributing.
Any improvement in documentation is a bonus, whether they be advanced or beginners guides. Maybe we should have both, but somehow separated. antiX was designed to be used by new users, not only to fluxbox/icewm, but also to linux in general. It has also developed into an incredibly flexible distro, which makes documentation more 'difficult' as so much can be done via smxi for example.

This is a very good idea! Regarding myself, I am usually able to get by with the basic Linux knowledge I have. But having guides for advanced topics would be great! Let me know if I can assist in any way.

add how to make default boot into fluxbox on antiX M8: open up /home/username/.xinitrc, change last entry to fluxbox
