Placeholder for my IBM T23 test. Above screeny shows my external monitor hooked up to 13.2 using Savage driver.
Rest of post will be in Testing 14RC4 live pen drive.

Pendrive booted. Funny how vesa defaulted on my lcd 14 inch screen to 1600x1200. But on the external monitor hookup.
Screenshot will show all.

Image

Also did a quick test on my movie on internal hard drive. Used F4 option"mount=all" to save time. Screen shot below.

inxi report before I reboot using defaults no touch any F4 keys next.

Be back on next reboot. OK. Back. But on my desktop computer next to my Laptop external monitor test.
No F keys hit. Using Defaults to boot. Screen lockup after slim login. Photograph below to show what I mean.
Next boot will be safe graphics in F5.

Safe graphics boot using F5 key. CPU is hammering
Htop says

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/I -nolisten tcp -auth /vr/run/slim.auth vt07
from what I can make out on the crt as the main cpu hungry culprit. Photo again because the laptop is only usable in vesa it seems.

This concludes the IBM T23 test with PLOP cd (removed during pendrive boot screen).
I will try again later with a cd disk to see if results change because hardware can be funny depending
on what is attached to what.

The arrows thing was a GTK problem, and they are back to workin.

Spacefm, yeah, it was just my opinion. If the devs like rox filer, at least its easy to change if the user wants to.

If they use the openbox setup I created, it specifically calls spacefm when it needs to, but otherwise calls the default.

Screenshot dialox, Ok, rather than discuss the screenshot filesave dialog size, I figured out how to fix it reasonably, making the window height=500. They can use the code if they like. If someone was to tell me if or how they would like easy fixes done/posted,next time I will look and see if its something I can fix before bringing it up. __{{emoticon}}__

Code attached if it will let me, otherwise will post inline

Code: Select all

Testing IBM T23 without external monitor. Using Laptop LCD. Using Vesa driver,> as default and safe graphics in F5 make this laptop unusable. The screen freezes at mouse pointer in default. Safe hammers the cpu like I mentioned in my previous post above this one using external monitor. Only difference from previous post is this

Code: Select all

demo@antix1:~
$ cat / etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section"Monitor"
    Identifier"Monitor0"
    Option"DPMS""true"
    HorizSync 30-75
    VertRefresh 55-70
EndSection

Section"Device"
    Identifier"Device0"
    Driver "vesa"
EndSection

Section"Screen"
    Identifier"Screen0"
    Monitor"Monitor0"
    Device "Device0"

    SubSection"Display"
    EndSubSection
EndSection
demo@antix1:~
$ xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 1600 x 1200, maximum 1600 x 1200
default connected 1600x1200+0+0 0mm x 0mm

   1280x1024 61.00
   1024x768 71.00
   800x600 61.00
   720x576 0.00
   720x480 0.00
   640x480 60.00
So hard as hell to post this here in 1600x1200 screen resolution.
Using xrandr -s just scrambles the screen on 800x600 or 1024x768.
So I am kinda jumping through hoops to post this. Something a new user
will not be able to do.

Trust me. My screen looks like nothing like my screenshot is showing.
No taskbar. No Conky. I am manuevering using right click for the menu.

Used Wicd to get here on wireless N. Using antixcc.

Edit: Shucks. Just noticed how big my 70% thumbnail screenshot shows here while on my Panasonic CF-48 with 1024X768 working. Sorry guys.

I can't see installing this on this laptop because of the bug with graphics.
So moving on to my other gear and see how this cdrom disks fares.

No show stopping glitches so far on this laptop. Music and sound works playing files on internal hard drive.
Touchpad works. Movies play in mplayer2. No complaints from me running Live. I am able to mount internal Linux drives in rox file manager as user in /media. Wireless wpa2 hookup via wicd in antixcc.

Definitely a install candidate for this Panasonic CF-48 laptop.

I have a3 installed on here. 32 bit. I will backup and install on this one. Tested Gnome Mplayer as user this time and opened Antix 14 a3 /home as user on internal drive and played riddick movie so sound and video work fine.
So I have my work cut out later copying and pasteing later on before running the installer on this unit.

But before I do. I will also test this cd on my HP A130N Desktop and IBM M41 Desktop computer also. Later on.
Done for today. __{{emoticon}}__

Initially had 1600x1200 on this Dell 22" CRT I posted the photo of in above post when I ran the IBM T23 on this crt because of graphics issues (experimental run).
Used antixcc to change resolution from 1600x1200 to 1024x768. Works OK. Sound, Movies on file, all work.

Looks to be a good install candidate for this rig also.

A minor problem.

If you boot the live cd and then change desktop options to a desktop without icons, a normal person won't be able to find the installer because its called"antixsources" on the menu.

Menu System:

I'm still not in love with the way items are added to the Personal Menu, as well as the now 3 choices for updating menus in the update menus item.

My main issue is with the"Personal" menu. Items are required to have .desktop files somewhere, or else risk their removal once the Update Personal Menu script runs. Any manual entries are removed during an"Update Personal Menu" event. The"add menu item" utility included does let you create the .destkop file and set which menu for it to appear in one step, but the interface is a little clunky. For instance, there is no browsing to an app's existing .desktop file. You have to know the command, and what icon you want to use. Since you have to know those things, its really easier just to modify the personal menu text file itself (like the good ole days), but you can't or the entries vanish when the update menu runs. Manual editing also would allow for custom menu placement (for instance, spacefm BEFORE Audio Player). The menu is currently ordered alphabetically ONLY.

If the personal menu is kept in its current form, the add menu item utility really needs to be in that menu as well by default. Or perhaps reworked so that the app edits the personal menu directly, thus eliminating the need for the"update personal menu" item.

just a thought.

I think you just need to have a desktop entry that will generate a personal menu entry to edit the personal menu in order to get it there

i admit i've never tried the personal menu in icewm
