Welcome to antiX rosban.

We'll see if we can get that wireless chip running.

still does not work here is what i have done so far installed antix 6.5 again looked at the module it was loading which is netr33x devikce 10ec:8180 alt device r818x . then installed antix 7.0 looked at the module it installed it is netr33x device 10ce:8180 but no alt device listed removed netr33x module rebooted computered copied driver inf and sys files from the cd i got with the wireless nic card and using ndiswrapper installed it it installed alright tried to connect to internet same thing it connects and as soone as it does it lockes up computer and the one thing i forgot to mention before is that now if you try to rebbot laptop it gets to the point in the boot process where it checks for you network card see's my wireless card connects and then locks up and does not finish the boot process only alternative at this time is to reinstall antix . also tried a fresh burn of antix 7.0.1 but still the same thing. would trying a different version of ndiswrapper such as the one on the antix 6.5 cd work? it is very frustrating i can see it connect it tells it has the ip address and everything then locks up __{{emoticon}}__

I found this on another linux forum. . .
rtl8180 under linux 2.6
You need to use ndiswrapper and the driver from the RealTek site; using the driver provided on the CD that came with my cheapo pcmcia card led to a panic on startup.
Also, you might find something to help here:

Note; You can type"mean" (w/o quotes) at the grub boot prompt to boot without network processes. Once booted, you can enter network info in mnetwork (mepis network assistant). Good luck to you.

Finally, this from RealTek
