topic title: AntiX and PII-MMX

Hi,

I'd just like some confirmation that I can run AntiX-7.1 on my old PII-MMX? The twiki says something about using Sparticus but it looks like the latest is called Lysistrata.

Spartacus is the oldest version and it will definitely run on your box.
Lysistrata probably won't as it uses a 686 kernel. PII works but it seems PII MMX won't, but give it a try as a livecd and let us know what happens.

I just wanted to confirm that the livecd ran __{{emoticon}}__ So I installed it on my hard drive. The only problem is it did not detect and install my wireless card driver, while the older MEPIS did. I will work on that next!

BTW AntiX is much more responsive on my old hardware that MEPIS ever was. Thanks for a great job!

Glad it works for you. Some people haven't managed to get a PII MMX to boot.

Have a look at the wiki on Mepislovers for getting wireless to work, or post here. I'm sure someone can help.

I get 'PANIC: cpu too old for this kernel' when I try to boot Antix-7 on a Sonny pcg-505fx which is PII MMX. I have the Antix loaded on the hard drive since I cannot boot from a CD. The Antix-7 I am using is a beta version. Do you think Antix-7.1 will have a better chance of booting?
Antix-6.5 works OK BTW.

I'm afraid I don't think it will as it uses the same kernel.
You could give it a try though.

This is rather strange. Some have managed to get a PII MMX to boot, others not. I wonder why that is.

Antix 7.01 did not work on the PII MMX system. Since I did not want to quit with this frustration I tried it on my Sony PGC Z505JSK which is a PIII and it works great. I guess for now I'll just stick with Antix 6.5 on the PII MMX system.
