Could antix (I used IceWM) displays Japanese characters (kanji, hiragana, etc.)? If it could, how do I enable it? Thanks.

hello and welcome to antix,
open synaptic package manager, search for xfonts japanese or ttf japanese, and install from the packages found. also i think the latest antix which is in release candidate 1 has japanese fonts installed by default.

Sorry for the late reply
Thanks for the answer. I had do that and it worked, but neither IceWM nor Fluxbox displays japanese characters in the window title bar.
I right-clicked at the IceWM toolbar and click"About". It said"UTF-8". Should I change it to SHIFT-JIS (for example)? If I should, how do I do that?

Hello kaege.
This is just a guess: IceWM has font settings in its preferences file. The system wide one is in /usr/share/icewm/preferences, I think, and in antiX there's a simplified one in ~/.icewm/preferences. The latter takes precedence over the former so check it first. Search for 'font' in the file and set it to the japanese font you want.
Some themes (in /usr/share/icewm/themes/themename/default.theme) also set the fonts themselves.

Have you set your locales to Japanese?

dpkg-reconfigure locales.

You probably need to set your /home/username/.profile to Japanese.

add to the end ot that file

export LANG=Ja_JP.UTF-8

BTW The latest antiX-M11 has much better support for Japanese than antiX-M8.5

I run dpkg-reconfigure locales and IceWM was suddenly closed. antiX returns to that command prompt interface. Afterwards, IceWM codeset changed from UTF-8 to ANSI_X3.4-1968. It wasn't a big deal, but xmms can't display Japanese characters anymore. I have set my .profile to Japanese and there's no change.
I don't know, man. This thing's getting on my nerves, but I won't give up yet __{{emoticon}}__
