Hello there,
I am using an AMD K6-450MHz (newly 3x256MB RAM) PC with
- board K6XV3/+66
- first HDD 10GB with antiX since 1 day (since I deleted windows98.. no return.. good decision)
- second HDD 6GB with TinyCoreLinux (TCL 3.4; very good thing)
- LAN card (working)
- USB Fritz WLAN (working currently with ndiswrapper in TCL boot)
- USB 2.0 card for memory sticks and the wlan USB.
- for internet, abiword and gnumeric file updates
antiX M8.5 base looks good and slim.
I was looking for such an operating system since a long time. My wife has a laptop with ubuntu 10.04. I am a bit disappointed of the gnome environment which is excessive in size and has instable icons in my point of view.
My works the next days will be
a) making the keyboard de-latin1 be recognized by every boot (persistent)
b) making working my fritz USB wlan with antiX and ndiswrapper (advices how to.. are welcome)
c) making working a ftp; how..?
d) delete the unnecessary programs from antiX
e) install an hp4110 scanner/printer
f) making working the usb memory stick

The one time I had to use ndiswrapper in AntiX was in 4th post down in thread and on down from there. Howdy and Welcome __{{emoticon}}__ floppy to AntiX. Happy New Years also.

Thanks. So, I loaded in fact now M11 pt1 full version because I had boot issues with M9.5 after an update and wicd loading.
And I read your post regarding ndiswrapper but could not load the file. Can you post it here?
I see I have ndiswrapper and wicd now. But how to make the setup now?
Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by uploading a file. Besides. I don't run that persistent usb anymore. I used it for testing AntiX 11 and I did not load ndiswrapper on that test because I was going to use it with other gear.

You need to find the Windows driver (usually a .exe file). Extract it. Find the Windows folder in the driver and look for a Windows 2000,98, or XP folder and look inside for the .inf file. That file is all that is needed by ndiswrapper to work.

But I guess you should already know this since you are using ndiswrapper in tiny core.

In case you need that zip file (my terminal readout text file I saved) if that is what you meant. Here it is within the code tags.

After driver has been loaded. You will need to insert/type wlan0 into wicd wireless preferences. Then refresh to see your router. Good Luck.

Hello,
I loaded the windows drivers which appear now in the wireless tool in M11 Pt1. But by making sudo modprobe ndiswrapper (ndiswrapper is installed acc synaptic and it loaded correctly the windows drivers), the error appear:
"FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found".
What happens here? What should I do. Any Idea?

Don't use sudo. It is not enabled/but is installed by default in AntiX. Use sux or su instead of sudo.

Type sux or su. Then type password. Then do modprobe.

I have another Idea: I will make it later when the USB stick is not connected (but driver present).
Any other idea what happens there?

Nope. You have ndiswrapper working in Tiny Core. I had no experience with ever having to use ndiswrapper before. When I used it in AntiX. I had to poke and hope as I was in virgin territory. I usually get by using the wireless module in the kernel. In fact. My head is geared to trying to get it working with a linux driver first. So when I used ndiswrapper. I had explored Linux alternatives first (for a considerable amount of time i might say).

Not sure why modprobe ndiswraper is giving you headaches. Maybe because i used ndisgtk to load the inf. file from Windows first made a difference for me. Since you have experience getting it to wok in Tiny Core. You have more experience than I using ndiswrapper. So no idea fro me. Maybe some other member has a hint. Shouldn't matter about

Because mine was internal pci wireless card (which could not be removed). But hey. Could be worth a try I guess. Good Luck with it. Rok

floppy - welcome back. When you say the latest antiX, which one? If it is one of the antiX-14R series, do be aware that they are all alpha releases and there are definitely issues.

I installed the debian stable one (not the fresh unfully tested cut). No issue. The few boot errors are now gone with the boot parameter"nomodeset". So far I remember I got it from
