Skidoo, thanks for the info and ideas. My idea would be to have the top programs or configurations of programs that I run most often in a window or on the desktop screen where its easy to pop up and run them without needing to traverse menu levels. My favorite icons are ones that have the name itself as part of the icon or over/under it, and are instantly recognizable, and a Camel on a Palm tree without the name would need the name or abbreviation of it added. Its sounds like there are a number of ways to do that I had missed.

Samk, I really like Spacefm as a file manager, after finding the 2nd and 3rd panels today. I don't know if it can also do the menu type thing, perhaps as a separate window with one panel, or as the 4th panel, maybe.

I guess I need to look at Rox again as well. I had it as the default file manager in SlakoPup, and its nice there, but never managed to get it setup to my liking under antix.
