Hi dear antiX-friends,
I installed my antiX 8.5 with German as default system language. Now I would like to add French as alternative language.
But I don't find anything like"language support" in control center or in the applications menue. Is it not possible to change
the language without reinstalling? Iceape doesn't have a French language pack in it's addons. I also installed iceweasel and
iceweasel-fr, but I cannot aktivate it in the addons-manager. So it stays in English. If I could at least get a somehow"modern"
browser in French language, it would be okay for me, too. I hope somebody can help me to mangage this project.
Greetings, Susanne

seeing how you are running 8.5 you will need to run in terminal ( dpkg-reconfigure locales ) simply run through the list and check the languages that you would like. M11 has this option in the control center under system tab, then configure system.

Hi Dave, thank you for your answer. I did it they way you told me. After reboot the only change I can see is the language in synaptic. All the menue remained in German, all the programms, too. Iceape and iceweasel also stayed in English.
Is there something more that I can configure to get a French system?

For the menus, control center, etc. You will need to copy the files from /usr/share/antiX/localisation/LANGUAGE-WANTED to the appropriate folders, ex menus to ~/.fluxbox, ~/.icewm, and the control center and contol center apps to /usr/local/bin. Iceape and iceweasel you will need to change in their prefferances I believe,as to the other apps I do not know.

EDIT,
it would be quite a bit easier to use the script that was made for M11, but the version I have made I think anti changed a bit. Maybe he can upload it to mepisimo for the people still running 8.5 such as yourself.

Hi Dave,
I cannot upgrade to M11 nor boot the M11 live-cd. I would really prefer to do it, see my post in the concerning topic:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/final-isos-uploaded-to-mepisimo-t3039-30.html"
linktext was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/final-isos- ... 39-30.html"

.
To hand out the script you are talking about would be very kind of anti.
Greetngs,
Susanne

Hi Dave,
I copied the files to .fluxbox and .icewm, There were only 3 and 2 files in the folders. But there are more than 20 files in the folder usr-bin. By which command can I copy the whole content of the folder to avoid typing the names of the different files one by one? I would be very happy about a recent answer from you. Thanks in advance, greetings, Susanne

I normally run the file manager as root to accomplish this, but if it is a command that you prefer than do
cp -r /usr/share/antiX/localisation/LANGUAGE-WANTED/fluxbox/* /home/USER/.fluxbox
cp -r /usr/share/antiX/localisation/LANGUAGE-WANTED/icewm/* /home/USER/.icewm
cp -r /usr/share/antiX/localisation/LANGUAGE-WANTED/local-bin/* /usr/local/bin

and for future users
cp -r /usr/share/antiX/localisation/LANGUAGE-WANTED/fluxbox/* /etc/skel/.fluxbox
cp -r /usr/share/antiX/localisation/LANGUAGE-WANTED/icewm/* /etc/skel/.icewm

Hi Dave,
thank you for your answer. I got it in French now. But there are still some things that remained in German:
the file managers, run command, the icewm preferences (to change focus and themes) and the logout options from the menu bar. Those ones in the toolbar are changed correctly.
Is there a way to change these things, or do I have to accept that it will remain like it is?
Thanks and greetings, Susanne

Make sure /etc/default/locale is

LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8

Home/username/.profile (hidden)
add to the end

export LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8

Hi anti,
thank you for that advice. I did it and now I've got everything in French as I wanted.
Even the French language pack in iceweasel is working after I installed another theme. The theme was blocking the language pack. I set iceweasel as default browser and I'm very happy with everything. Thanks to everybody who helped me with answers to my newbie questions.
Greetings, Susanne
