I've been fighting with a little conky problem and have decided to seek some advice.

I wanted conky to display a simple monthly calendar. I found several ways of doing it....either utilizing scripts or just a simple execi in conky. No matter which way I tried it the calendar had spacing problems...as shown in the following screenshot.

I finally discovered that if I disabled xft fonts in the config the calendar would display correctly...as in the following screenshot.

I would like to enable the xft font and have the calendar correctly displayed. With a little googling I found several calendars that displayed correctly in conky configs with xft enabled and could see little or no difference when compared to my config file.

I'm currently using the following simple command in the text area of my conky config to call up the calendar:
${execi 300 cal}
Any ideas?

I can't help with the technical aspects, but I did notice that it looks nicer with the xft fonts. I hope you can get this to work properly.

I tried your calendar in Spartacus, with the same results you describe. But does your original post mean that there are calendars that do display correctly with xft enabled? If so, why not use one of those? (I must be confusing your meaning...)

What I'd like to try is another xft font. In my conky config, it's Kristen ITC-8. If I can find where the xtf fonts are, I'll try different ones to see what happens.

[P.S.: Another nice feature would be to have the calendar circle the current day--but maybe that's asking too much when I've already put the current day at the head of the display]

To try to clear up a little of the confusion...I did find at least one script that displayed properly in the author's screenshot, using xft. But when I used his script I had the spacing problem. I've tried two or three scripts, and the direct command I'm using now. All of them had the same exact spacing problem when xft fonts were enabled.

I found at least one example where the screenshot (illustrating someone's calendar script) showed the spacing problem.

So I've found examples from other people where the calendar spacing was both correct and incorrect. But no matter what I try the spacing is messed up with xft fonts. I have not tried it with a font other than Kristen. I'll play with that as well as some other ideas tonight

Malanrich: I did find one script that puts brackets around the current day, but the script leaves out the year and month headers. I found that less useful. Plus, as you say, you can put the current date in conky on another line...or look at your taskbar.
