Fair point erie, but I have set up a different icon theme for rox as root so I know I'm running it as root.
I prefer a key shortcut, again a reminder that I am using root.

Thanks to impuwat, erie and anti for the suggestions about the root folder. I set it up with the gksu option and password.

I tried to enable the volume icon (using the CC menu settings, I just removed the #) but it does not work. Maybe it's not included in my version of antix? I'm running test 1 (old test 1, not public release).

I also modified the conky a bit (I hope you don't mind, Impuwat) since I wanted a bit more contrast and also added a couple of things.

Anyway, here's a screenshot showing how it looks so far. I'm very happy with it.

You probably need to install absvolume.

Grab the .deb and install it and you should be good to go.

Erie:

Thanks. I guess it absvolume was not included in my version. I installed it and it works fine now.

Your window doesn't look correct - compare it with impuwat's original screenshot and you'll see what I mean. It looks like some symlinks got messed up. You may need to delete the theme folder and try extracting again.

I noticed the oddity in the active window label as well but thought maybe you (Pedro) were experimenting with some mods on the theme. As far as conky goes....knock yourself out making changes. That's the fun and beauty of linux....the ultimate in adaptability and customization. I'm sure there's a lot of improvements that could be made.

I also noticed in your message that conky was eating more of your cpu then you are used to. I have a pentium 4 3.2GHz so it's not much of an issue. But even then I don't leave conky on all the time. I like having a really complete conky so I can see how hungry certain processes are, etc. but just check it when I'm curious or need to.

John:

thanks for noticing the difference. I deleted the theme, re-extracted it and copied the directory back to icewm/themes and I still get the same results. Some icons look like impuwat's but others do not.

Here's what I'm doing:

in root terminal, open pcmanfm, extract tar, copy bluecrystal directory to icewm/themes.

I'm not sure why the results don't match exactly.

thanks.

i tried it to see how it looks and i have the same result as pedro. the titlebar portion of the theme is a little big and the title color separation is in the half of the title bar. antix test 3 here so maybe something is missing from icewm.

EDIT: I FIX IT! you won't beleave me if i tell you. i have a problem with grey icons set if i extract them with xarchive from pcmanfm and copy them i cannot see all of them. but if open rox and extract them with xarchive then copy them they all work. i know this bug for some time.tried the same thing with the theme and now i have it looking good.

Hello ice-m:

I'm glad you got it work properly. I still can't get it. I'm not sure I understand how you did it, but this is what I tried.

Open rox as root, untar, then copied the bluecrystal folder into icewm/themes. I did not copy an icons folders into /usr/share/icons. Is that what I'm doing differently?

thanks.

Well, I tried untar and copy from rox (as root) rather than pcmanfm, and a reboot and the icons still don't look the same. So, unlike, ice-m, this issue is still a problem for me. Fortunately, it's a rather small issue, so I'm not too worried about it. Still, it would be nice to know what's going on.

thanks.

Pedro -

When you extract the files in one directory and then move them to another, that will cause the symlinks to break. Instead, copy the tar archive to the appropriate folder and then extract it there.

John

thanks for the info. The problem I'm having is that what gets extracted are directories within directories, so I get something like

bluecrystal+
bluecrystal+
bluecrystal
files

I tried extracting just the bluecrystal folder to icewm/themes and still created a subdirectory. when i click on the settings/themes in the menu bar, it does not see bluecrystal (since it's buried 1 directory deep). When I copied the directory into themes (and breakling the symlinks, I guess), the menu picked it up right away.

Is there another way to untar it, or perhaps I should not untar in icewm, but higher in the tree?

thanks

Pedro:

I just sent you a private message with another Blue Crystal theme attached. This is just the theme....not the conky or readme. Maybe it will be easier to extract.

Also I usually just open a terminal and extract it from command line. You might try that as well.

If this happens again, then I would:

1. move the tarball to the appropriate directory and untar
2. find the resulting theme folder and tar it
3. repeat step 1 with the new tarball

I was going to ask about this; I like the theme and really like the conky, but thought it was too resource hungry. Turning it off is a good idea, if it monitors everything though.

I've had trouble with the folders in certain themes too; I'll try your tip the next time I change themes.
