I'm not sure if this is important so I'm reporting it just in case. When I ran the leafpad editor as root from the terminal (I wanted to look at the syslog file) I got the following errors:

Code: Select all

(leafpad:2394): GVFS-RemoteVolumeMonitor-WARNING **: cannot connect to the session bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
This one was repeated a number times immediately after leafpad started.

Code: Select all

(leafpad:2394): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Failed to create file '/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.044RWV': No such file or directory

(leafpad:2394): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: No such file or directory
I think that these ones were caused when I changed the font that leafpad used.

Everything ran okay so they don't seem serious, but as I said, I'm reporting them just in case.

I am just posting from a Emachines Desktop that my wife just brought home that was sitting by the dumpster in the alley next to another old tower/Desktop made by IBM (Aptiva 2156). I haven't hooked up the IBM yet to see what it has yet.

I am running AntiX 11 Base right now in live mode. Connected through ceni via a wireless USB I have.

As you can see. No errors running live anyways. This is just too cool. Running AntiX from a trashed computer with Windows ME installed.

Code: Select all

demo@antiX1:~$ inxi -F
System: Host antiX1 Kernel 2.6.36-1-mepis-smp i686 (32 bit) Distro antiX-M11-base-686 Jayaben Desai 25 April 2011

Info: Processes 81 Uptime 15 min Memory 119.5/435.6MB Runlevel 5 Client Shell inxi 1.4.23
This unit only has 512MB of ram and a 10gig IDE Hardrive. But the processor has more CPU than my Frankenstein IBM NetVista M41.
Has internal Card readers, DVDRW, 6 USB ports, Not too shabby for 0 dinero.

Now I'm gonna disconnect this unit and see if the old Aptiva powers up and what it has. Probably not enough ram to boot AntiX maybe.

Not sure why you are getting leafpad errors running as root. None of my installs exhibit this. Maybe you are right about the font changes since this post is just from a stock live session.

I have an Emachine, but I bought it and I have gone dumpster diving for free computers and other goodies. I found a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop in the trash, the only thing that I could tell that was wrong with it was it overheated quickly due to the fan being clogged up with dust and other gunk. People throw away some quality stuff for silly reasons
