antiX comes with 3 file managers. Which do you use (mainly) and why?

I voted for PCManFM but it registered MC (Opera browser started to get buggy).
PCManFM does the job fine. I use rox too, I open its folders directly from IceWM's menu.
Maybe I would use mainly ROX if just it would work properly as root. Unfortunately it doesn't open the files. Even setting the run action it works maybe in one out of twenty tries.

i use rox mostly as it reliably mounts and unmounts my usb keys. I've also taken the effort recently to try to learn some of rox's tricks and short cuts.

i've also used thunar in the past for the auto-mounting (thunar has a dameon mode), but its not necessary on 8.5. to me, pcmanfm is nice but I've come to like rox's interface better.

PCMANFM mostly(vote). Love to symlink using rox though. I use both depending on what I wish to do and how fast I wish it done.

I used rox to move home to /home in my Asus install. Symlinking was a breeze is why. I just like and am more familiar with pcmanfm features though.

In Puppy they came up with a pet package for rox file manager that added a ton on right click features for rox file manager in Puppy.

Rox is a bit quirky, but far more powerful than pcmanfm. I like the way it handles the desktop better, too. It also can be used to change the icon themes on your system. You can also change the right-click menu. Rox also does a better job with displaying thumbnails. In fact I like rox so much that I installed the 8.5 base so that I could build the distro around rox and its pinboard.

rox. very fast and i like that i can remove things i don't use from it. also single click navigation is better than pcmanfm. the only trouble i had with it was the mount and unmount of usb sticks, but now it's solved.

rox, fast ,reliable, simple to use. I sometimes use pcmanfm but rely on rox as it gets the job done.

Another plus is that rox + pinboard + fluxbox = good while pcmanfm + manage desktop + fluxbox = bad.

Mostly pcmanfm. It's been a favourite for since my Ubuntu days. Ubuntu's filemanager nautilus just won't let you do anything as root, I really resented that limitation.

Why? You can run it as root from a terminal, it'll tell you you are in superuser mode, and you can muck up your files, sorry, carry on as super, as much as you like, in a gui app.
Also you can do the same from the live cd, works quite well.
I do like the choices offered by all of them of course.

I do a lot of my file management from the command line, but do tend to use mc when I need a manager, especially if I'm not in X, so I've voted for it.

I still use rox 99% of the time and mc when out of X.

PCmanFM no more. Mainly Rox now though I do use Spacefm for usb mount and also plugin scripts for Spacefm like burning ISO from Ignorant Guru.

Mainly rox though for everything else.

just commands. Really. For me it is less confusing and more fast than any filemanager.

Three are used.

Midnight Commander
This is installed in almost every distro here. In CLI systems it is unsurpassed. Its"User Menu" facility has been extensively customised here and is used in both CLI and GUI modes for repetitive tasks.

ROX-Filer
This is attractive to novice users due to its simple GUI interface. Uncomplicated tasks can be performed easily and intuitively.

SpaceFM
This is used when tasks are suited to a multi-pane GUI interface.


I see this as using the tool most suited to the job at hand.

To put it another way, when it rains wear a waterproof coat. When it is cold wear an insulated coat. When it is hot wear a lightweight jacket.
