happy to be using AntiX (Antics? Antiques?) and looking forward to taking part in this forum.

Machine specs as below. I found this laptop abandonned by my room's previous tenant: I'm hoping to restore it gradually to full function.

I have used linux before, but never to a very high level. My plan is to use the found laptop as a training platform to build up my skills and knowledge.

I'm writing a Ph.D. thesis on the idea of the European in early 1990s cinema. I do a little bit of filmmaking in my spare time, and my long-term aspiration would be to use linux for film editing and distribution.

Welcome. You will find some experts on Linux here, quite a few developers of AntiX (Antics), and some WILD and CRAZY PEOPLE here. Some of us were just born that way. Others take linux too seriously.

I gave up on my thesis of the use of discipline as an incentive for better performance years ago. The educational"experts" claim that discipline does not aide in improving performance. Maybe that's why we have kids the way they are. I still believe in"Spare the rod; Spoil the child."

Howdy and Welcome. I have a couple of IBM's (A22M & T23) laptops on the shelf myself.

I moved on though by running AntiX on my Atom Netbook and Desktops Towers so the IBMs (and one Amrel RT 786EX) are regulated to hard travel duties
in harsh environments when I am riding my scooter.

I have observed looking around the forum that older,"obsolete" machines seem to be part of the furniture. I'm encouraged to see that I seem to be in the right place for what I'm trying to do.

I am slightly taken aback, but in a good way, by the expressions of interest in my thesis. (I am writing this post as straightforward procrastination while I'm supposed to be working on that.) Perhaps I will make a thread on the"kafeino" page about that in the near future.
