there is an edit login option in the control center >session that runs an app called update-default-desktop which may be of use as well.

Just curious what you guys like better about fluxbox or openbox as compared to icewm? I don't know fluxbox, but with openbox you need to add a panel to get to where its the equal of icewm, and it uses more memory, but otherwise to me they seem similar functionally.

I don't like the right click on the desktop thing and prefer a start button in a known location myself, but I guess that's a personal preference.

I prefer 13.2 to the MX version, and wonder when we will see a 14.1 Alpha 3 or Beta?

I set up my"windows" key to bring up the program menu in fluxbox. works when I have an app maximized that way. and the menu pops up wherever my eyes are. to be fair, I do he same thing in icewm too.

the fluxbox menu is also keyboard aware, in that you can type to the first few letters of an apps name. icewm is limited to the first character.

I like the smaller toolbar and the fact that fluxbox remembers my window positions/sizes better than icewm. I don't use a toolbar type panel, but rather I customize the fluxbox menu with my favorite apps on the top level of the menu. the fluxbox panel/toolbar does have a tasklist, workspace switcher, and system tray & clock by default.

in general, i think the fluxbox themes as a whole are nicer, but there are serveral really good icewm themes also included in antix.

other than that, force of habit.

Yes, that was the problem I had with the right click thing, needing to get the desktop up first for it to work most times. I do like your"windows key" solution.

I have to increase the toolbar size usually as my machines have laptop screens and i need to wear glasses to read, so a little bit larger is better for me.

I hadn't noticed the keyboard shortcuts on menus. I typically use the mouse, and I also customize the menus.

JWM with nice themes might also be good. I saw they were trying it with 13.5 but that seems not to have gone forward. I saw a puppy version running it. I will have to take another look at fluxbox. Maybe with a few changes it would be workable for me.

youre in luck. jwm is there in 13.2 as well.

I'm an openbox and tint2 panel fanboy. I've tried fluxbox and it just doesn't compare to openbox and the tint2 panel IMO. I've only briefly played around with jwm. It didn't impress me enough to switch from openbox.

For me Openbox and tint2 are a perfect match. That's why I use Crunchbang so often. Simple, fast and stable. I'm still trying to wrap my head around Antix. For now I am very happy discovering MX-14. Beautiful distro!

+1 on CrunchBang, openbox, and tint2.

I wanted to try using a Debian Testing distro, so I chose antiX 13.2 Full. I would have preferred antiX Base, but it's a bit outdated and I worried about some of the bugs in the installer that were fixed in the 13.x Full releases.

What do you think of Antix 13.2 full? I find it has a lot to offer and might just be a puppy linux replacement for me. We'll see as I continue to explore it.

In general, I like my experience so far, although I don't care for most of the default apps. However, I understand that antiX is geared towards users with older hardware, so I'm just removing all of the stuff I don't want and installing the stuff I do want. I like the newer apps that Debian Testing offers, but we'll see what stability/reliability is like. I like newer, but not at the expense of stability/reliability. I like the fact that antiX seems to be developed to work well with all of the Debian repos. That's a real plus IMO.

I still find after trying out other distros, I always go back to Crunchbang. Very fast to set up and use and that's what I want in a distro. Reliability above all else, then I add only the apps I need to get my work done. That's it! Antix is an interesting distro that I always keep in one of my partitions. It's funny how when I first discovered Crunchbang how quickly I enjoyed it. I'm experiencing the same thing with MX-14, and hope that Antix will be an alternative to puppy linux for me. Puppy is so fast!

I became smitten with CrunchBang back in 2010 when I bought an ASUS EeePC and installed CrunchBang on it. It is now my main distro. I have learned quite a bit from the members of the CrunchBang forums as well.

You'll want to install obmenu as well for the GUI openbox menu editor. One might also desire to have a panel, so tint2 pairs well with the openbox window manager.

I'm thinking about it! The last time I vacated my antiX partition I replaced it with something very annoying (no names mentioned) and it's been a while since I've been here! I'm thinking about a comeback to antiX, but I've got to check it out first - gotta stop distro-hopping!

update: I just downloaded MX-14 and antiX-13-386 full, so I'll know in a few days which on I'll use .... if at all __{{emoticon}}__
