Hello everyone! I just tried antiX for the first time a few days ago and I am loving it so far. I have been using Mepis for about 6 months. I still am using Mepis, just wanted to see what all the buzz about antiX was. Previously, I used Ubuntu as my main OS for about 3 years. Made the switch to Mepis and didn't look back. I am hoping antiX holds up the same!

Welcome to antiX, Jaws. Which did you choose....Spartacus, Lysistrata or Base? Either way, if you like small, fast & functional you'll like antiX. It does, indeed, live up to it's claim:

I picked Lysistrata. What is the difference between that and Spartacus? Is Spartacus just the older version?

Spartacus spawned from Mepis 6.5 before the migration"back to the future" (debian). Lysistrata is anti's full offering based on debian, as is Mepis 7x. Base is essentially a light version of Lysistrata....only the baiscs are included so you have a relatively"clean slate" to build your antiX as you like it. Anti has really done a great job and you'll glean a lot of great scripts, tips, and ideas here on the forum. Share what you discover with the rest of us. Enjoy!

So Spartacus is Mepis based and Lysistrata is Debian base?

Spartacus and Lysistrata are both Mepis based. And Mepis is based on Debian.
But Spartacus is based on Mepis 6.5, which is based on Debian via Ubuntu. Lysistrata is based on Mepis 7.0, which is based on Debian directly.

As you can see there are a lot of friendly and helpful people here, some using Mepis and others using other distros.
Spartacus was based on Mepis 6.5 (Ubuntu dapper repos). Spartacus should be used if you have a k5/k6/PII MMX(that doesn't boot with Lysistrata) processor.
Lysistrata is based on Mepis 7 plus Debian Testing/Lenny repos.
The newest antiX-M7.2.iso is still Debian Testing plus Mepis apps, but prioritises Debian apps over Mepis. In fact Mepis repo is commented out and mepis-config is removed. This should make antiX even more of a 'rolling' Debian testing release.
You will only need the Mepis repos to install nvidia or ati drivers (unless you prefer to do so from source) and any upgraded kernels.
Oh, and have fun with antiX.
