I recently faced a problem with hibernation and waking from sleep for my computer. Whenever my computer goes into hibernation mode, I cannot get it back. What do I need to do for this?
My computer"Compaq Presario V2000"
Antix 8.5
512 MB RAM

Your advice will be greatly appreciated as I cannot use my computer for presentations etc, because it keeps on hanging up when it goes into hibernation mode.

512MB of ram is pretty weak to wake up from for Hibernation. Going to need about 1.5GIG or so of swap partition to help carry the load. Anti needs to weigh in or one of the other members with a regular hardrive laptop because I don't run swap on my Asus EEEPC SSD drives (not a healthy thing to do for me)

arinbasu,

There are a couple of things you might try, I resolved my hibernation woes by installing uswsusp and it's depends, I used synaptic for this chore.
Now when I close my laptop and reopen I get a black screen,
I then hit ctrl-alt-F1 then hit ctrl-alt-F7 and everything is back to normal.

Also Dave resolved his issue by installing acpi-support.
Also I have in my menu.lst
resume= /dev/hda2

this points to my swap partition, your's will be different.

There are so many variables that is really a matter of trial and error.
Hope this helps

cheers,

Here's a link to a classic solution that I've used in the past. Works on both my old sony and my newer EEE.
