I recently ran the antiX M7 beta2 live CD on my remaining winXP box. The first time, all the hardware was recognized and I was able to access everything. The only blip was the 5-way sound was not recognized...just forward speakers. This computer also has two LCD monitors. Had mirror images on both monitors...which I expected.

The next day I tried the same CD on the same computer. This time the two LCD screens were not recognized and screens were unintelligible. I rebooted at a lower refresh rate. This time the screens worked correctly. I had no sound, however, and the sound card had not been correctly detected.

Why do I have correct hardware recognition one time but not the next? I realize I could install and keep my fingers crossed for proper hardware detection but am I overlooking something? Not quite ready to install on the remaining windows computer yet, but not using it much with AntiX on the laptop and Mepis 6.5 on another desktop.

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions!

Hello impuwat.

I don't know why it is so inconsistent, maybe thats why it is a beta.
Beta 3 will be available soon, hopefully without the problems.
antiX-M7-beta3 will be based on the up-to-date Mepis-beta4 version.

Thank you for your reply. I will try the next Beta on the same computer and document the results on this thread.

I have noticed the same inconsistency in AntiX-M7-rc1. Tried the live cd on several computers (three or four) and noted that some computers will run it consistently and others will not.

Curiously the first use of the live cd seems to be nearly flawless. The second or third use will occasionally result in inconsistent monitor or sound problems.

I'm not sure why it happens, but I suspect it has something to do with the cd player and the shutdown process. There seems to be inconsistency in hal and dbus.
A bit of a puzzle.

Could you test a Mepis-beta4 or beta 5 cd and see if it has the same inconsistency. We could work out if it is a common Mepis/antiX problem or an antiX one with old hardware.

I will download the latest Mepis beta tonight and do some testing on the same computers over the next several days.
