First feedback from a Debian novice: MX-14 gets a solid A rating - everything works easily and smoothly and it's a top-notch OS start to finish. antiX comes a close second (a few Windows apps like Chrome need tweaking), and Mepis runs third, although it is more comprehensive. I made a noble effort with DebianDog and MintPup, but gave up trying to adapt them to my needs. They are what they are, and that's about all for a novice. This was something of a disappointment, as I'm an avid and wildly successful Puppy user. I had hoped for a bridge. As to the web sites and communities - this one's great, although more artistic than intuitive in design (I have to think to use it). I can't recommend other Debian venues - they seem to think their market is comprised of those who already know their product, and within that context they are competitive and even adversarial. Not much help there. This is a welcoming and supportive group - minds and arms wide open. It's a true pleasure to join. - Eric

Glad to hear you like what we have been doing at antiX - re antiX itself and our MX version with the great folks over at MEPIS Community.

As a Puppy user, you can see their influence on antiX - particularly live, though we have gone down a different route to run persistence/remaster etc. We are probably unique in being the only Debian based distro that offers Puppy-like frugal/persistence/remaster and install to hard drive (ok maybe Knoppix has this as well)

I plan on familiarizing a bit more before working with personalized versions to install on my various salvaged machines, but I am looking forward to it. anitiX and MX have vastly better repository access than Puppy and a significantly more substantial code base. Your work suits hard drive installation and provides a better operating foundation for development. Puppy is at its best portable, especially on DVD. I think you occupy a very promising niche, but beware - Knoppix is a stick mansion with three kitchen sinks! Thanks for the warm welcome.

Welcome and Howdy! One of the great things about antiX is that you can customize it endlessly. Have fun.
