1. After updating two 7.1 boxes, I get some sort of web server error: lighttfp ? or something like that. I usually see it after using synaptic.
2. I keep getting"locale" ? errors. When I try to set the clock, use aptitude, see messages in synaptic, etc, text is so garbled as to be unreadable.

1. Lighttpd is a web server similar to apache but smaller. You must have a broken dependency somewhere. If you don't use it just remove it.

2. Your machine is probably set to the wrong locale. Open a terminal and su to root then enter dpkg-reconfigure locales. Deselect the unwanted ones and select en_US.utf-8.

I found if you select the default while installing(en_US) you will get the issues you describe. I try to make sure I select en_US.utf-8 during the install and avoid the problems.

I have tried reconfiguring the locales before. Unfortunately, it did not work this time or the last time. I still have garbled text in the same apps. Interestingly enough, aptitude looks fine when I run it as a user, it's when I become root that the problem manifests itself. There must be a connection since all of these problems are tied to apps run as root.

As far as lighttpd, I don't know how it got on my system - is it part of the iso or from and upgrade?

Thanks.

lighttpd comes with antiX.

I get the same problem as you OU812 when running apps like mc as root, and reconfiguring locales doesn't help either. Not sure why this is happening.

Thanks for the info. Anti - are also having the same problem with lighttpd? Just try to install something. When the process finishes, that's when you'll get a popup detailing the problem. Thanks.

I found a copy of the first antix xfce test iso - so this is the 7.1 test release. I had no issues with setting the clock, aptitude, etc. So I'm wondering if something got installed along the way that messed things up - something that was added from base to full. Thanks.
