Just a quick and simple way to reduce the amount of space the workspaces take up in the taskbar. Hopefully it might be helpful when taskbar space is at a premium due to low screen resolution.


antiX-->Control Center-->Desktop-->Edit JWM Settings
In the preferences tab find the section headed Virtual Desktops
In the Virtual Desktops section change the following line
From
<Desktops height='1' width='2'>
To
<Desktops height='2' width='1'>
Save the file
antiX-->Logout-->Restart JWM to implement the change

Thanks SamK , I was wonder which setting would accomplish this.
The original setup did take up unneeded space.
Even at 1920x1080 on a 28" monitor , it looks better anyway.
