I've been playing with a shareware program called KnotsBag. Knotsbag is a specialty graphics program designed to make celtic knot images. Knotsbag comes in versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The author claims it works best under Mac or Linux (doesn't everything?). The windows version is a self executable file. Completed artwork can be imported into Gimp or Inkscape. KnotsBag is a little addictive....kind of like solitaire.

I downloaded the linux version but wasn't really sure what I had. Would one of you be willing to download it and tell me what or if I can do to run it in antiX? The home-page has lots of graphics and takes a long time to load...it can be found at:

linktext was:"http://pagesperso-orange.fr/hypatiasoft/"

The linux version download link is:

url was:"http://pagesperso-orange.fr/hypatiasoft/Download/KnotsBag_Linux.zip"
linktext was:"http://pagesperso-orange.fr/hypatiasoft ... _Linux.zip"

.

Thanks for the help.

I just downloaded it and unzipped it. Double click on the KnotBag (Linux) file starts it up just fine. If it doesn't start for you then you would be missing one of the dependencies listed in"Read me first.pdf" but I think you should be alright with antiX.

You may want to drag the file to /usr/local/bin so every user can access it.

I just realized this is a java app so you will need java installed as well.

Still a no-go. I already had java. Can't find any dependencies I'm missing but there must be one somewhere. Curious you could get it running out of the box and I can't.

The pdf give some dependencies. Do you have everything listed?

It looks like it was written in real basic??(whatever). It needs gtk+2.0 or better and it's dependencies. I though we already had this installed but I must have got through something else.

I must be missing something. I thought we had gtk+2.0 or better. I checked debian and it looks like lenny, sid, and etch have 2.0 or better. I looked up the dependencies and it looks like I have what I need to run 2.0+. There is something there missing but I can't seem to find it.

What about Pango(libpango)?

I have libpango 1.20.5-3. I knew I had pango because when I start gimp after becoming root, I sometimes get pango error messages in terminal. Gimp always starts and is usable under root, but I get the pango"freak-out". And maybe therein lies a problem.

Why do you need to start gimp as root?

When I edit pixmaps with gimp for a theme....say an icewm theme in /usr/share/icewm/themes...gimp will not let me save the changes to the pixmap. If I log in as root and start gimp I can edit or create a pixmap anywhere. Am I missing something? Is there an easier way of doing it?

You could just copy the image to your /home then edit. When your done, then as root replace the image.

I have done that on occasion but it takes too long when you are dealing with all the pixmaps in an icewm theme....there are a bunch! And often it just takes a few seconds to make modifications. With that many files it's easier to just make the changes to the original and move to the next one. I usually create a copy of a base theme I will work off of. I make changes to the pixmaps and then reset the theme often to check how it looks. Occasionally restarting a theme kills gimp and I have to restart under root again. Most of the time it pops right back up.

That's the procedure so far but I'm open to ideas. I sure appreciate your feedback and ideas regarding KnotsBag. I wish I could get it to work under antix so I didn't have too import the artwork from my windows computer. But right now I'm busy enough with stuff for the new antix 8 I haven't played with it much.
