I just today did a du and grub2 was installed, with a notation that grub legacy would be kept at least until the end of squeeze.
I really dislike this grub2, very convoluted trying to do something simple. __{{emoticon}}__

Thanks for the headsup. I feel the same way about grub2. I will be kicking and screaming when dragged into using it. A script to run a script.

just fyi,

after install of grub2 and a reboot, you still get grub legacy with a choice to boot via chainload grub2 and if all goes well after checking your multiboots then you have the choice to upgrade to grub2 by entering the command :

upgrade -from grub-legacy

of course I did not choose this, although it looks"inevitable Mr. Anderson" in the near future.

cheers,

i didn't get it by dist-upgrade. installed it by hand. but wow it's pretty complex for no reason.
an /boot/grub/grub.cfg that is updated everytime i run the upgrade-grub command
lots of scripts in /etc/grub.d/
and from what i seen the only file that resembles a little with the old menu.lst is the /etc/default/grub file
i don't understand why some people complicate the simple things that worked.

Agreed...wish GRUB2 kept the basic, easy to maintain menu.lst structure rather than making it so damn complicated with perhaps allowing additional special options in the menu.lst. Also it is much harder to put a graphic background in GRUB2 than it is in GRUB legacy.

GRUB legacy worked quite well and why make it harder???
