Just installed AntiX on my old Thinkpad T20 and it's great - apart from one thing - mplayer doesn't seem to work.

When I run it from the terminal I get this:
mplayer: relocation error: mplayer: symbol codec_wav_tags, version LIBAVFORMAT_52 not defined in file libavformat.so.52 with link time reference
Anyone got any ideas please?

Firstly delete /etc/apt/apt.conf file and then edit the /etc/apt/preferences file to only have this:

Code: Select all

Package: linux-kbuild-2.6.32
Pin: release n=mepis
Pin-Priority: 995
Then apt-get update & apt-get upgrade

Thank you very much - it seems to be OK now.

At first I thought it hadn't worked - I did what you said and got the same message when running mplayer. Then I upgraded mplayer using synaptic rather than the command line which said mplayer was"kept back".

Just out of curiosity what had gone wrong in the first place?

There are 2 mplayer packages. One from Debian Testing and one from Debian Multimedia Testing and sometimes they conflict with existing libraries if one of the repos is either disabled or set higher than the other as was the case in /etc/apt/preferences and /etc/apt/apt.conf
