Hi,

I'm new to both antiX and Linux. I was a Unix systems manager about 15 years ago so I'm hoping it won't be a complete shock to me.

I've installed on antiX onto a Packard Bell Imedia system that is about 12 years old. So far I'm impressed. I've tried over 10 distros (Mint, Breezy Badger, Xubuntu etc) but they were all unusable because of the speed. antiX so far seems great. Not overly speedy (but then the system is very old) but certainly usuable with a touch of patience.

My first question will be: tell me 3 things you think I'll find invaluable as I get to know this new (to me) OS?

Weclome to antiX.

1. Read the antiX FAQ.
2. Learn a little bit about inxi tool and use it.
3. Tell us exactly which version you are using __{{emoticon}}__ (inxi -F in a terminal)

Hi,

The updated FAQ link in Documentation just takes me to a page not found link??

Is there a pdf copy of the FAQ available?

The FAQ is also installed as html. /usr/share/antiX/FAQ

1. Learn how the AntiX Control Center Works (especially mount box=Connect Drives)

2. Learn Run in Menu=Gexec

3. +1 on the FAQ html (were you connected up to internet when you tried it in menu?)

I would strongly suggest getting use to the terminal, not only posting but basic commands / apps. Become familiar with commands like mv, cp, cd, etc... as well as commonly used apps such as nano, apt, **xi, etc...... These will become invaluable in the future if you begin to do some experimenting or would like more applications. For example, you are learning the gui / window manager and then you change the configuration which causes it to crash. Now you will need to use a terminal / cli session to change it back to access the gui once again. I can say from experience that it is a pain using google on one computer to try to fix the other. __{{emoticon}}__
