Newbie Question- I have tried to Intall AntiX-M8 but without much success. I boot up from live Cd and go to install, but it does not do anything. I have searched for basic installation guide for this software without much success. Any help would be appreciated

Maybe there is a bad burn. If it is, burn iso at slow speed and dao.

Before that, try, opening a terminal, then type
sux then
root then
minstall

I followed your instructions..it asked for password. I entered root.
Then it started saying""xauth: creating new authority file /root/.xauthority
Then nothing..It just hangs..

i am trying to install this on Pentium Celeron 400mhz machine with 128 mb ram and 10 gig hdd space.

Got any other ideas or should i try to burn another cd.

How much RAM is being used when it gets to desktop?
(The monitor on the left should show it)

Do you already have a swap file?

It might be that the cd is choking due to lack of RAM.

You could also try booting with the faster option. At boot menu, extras and first choice

Hi GK-LinuxNewbie. __{{emoticon}}__

I have an old PIII here with a Celeron 700mhz & 128mb ram, (5gb HD) and i've installed several versions of antix on it in the past year or so, including antix M8, which, although slow at installing, got there in the end. __{{emoticon}}__

Maybe it's a combination of a bad burn and old (read: SLOW) hardware?? I'd certainly try burning again, at the slowest speed possible, and preferably NOT to a CD-RW.

Hope you get it installed OK, please keep us posted with your progress & good luck.

Hey dude, fellow newbie here. I had the same problem installing on my system (Armada M300 p3 600 with 128 ram). I ended up having to use a system rescue cd to partition the drive before I did the install. Gparted will not work in the GUI.... (my guess is not enough memory). Anyways I partitioned a 512 swap and the rest reiserfs.....Used the"use existing partition" option and BLAM.... Speedy lil old laptop...... Hope this helps... __{{emoticon}}__
