Does anybody know of an app which will allow me to fill form fields on a PDF file. I currently use okular on my debian 7 system to fills these fields and also to read epubs, but if I install it on my core system it will require much KDE code. I have found calibre for epubs.

filling, then printing... apparently entails different functionality compared to
"filling, and saving the document with formfileds containing prefilled values".
You didn't specify an exact requirement; some of the following may fall short of handling the latter, but here's a list of leads for you to check out:
I hope you'll post back to report which (if any) of these suit you

FWIW, because PDFs can serve both a vulnerability vector (malicous embeds) and a privacy-leaking vector (retrieving remote images)
i personally use only"dumb" readers (xpdf under linux, SumatraPDF under windows) and drop net connection beforehand.

I use fbreader in AntiX for epub books. Comix for my comic books. Both come in lighter than caiibre for me. Which handles both from what I can tell.
But I run the full iso. My core installs and base installs were back in when AntiX was in 8.0 through 11. I got lazy I guess.
