Anyone tried it? Another option for a light file manager.

Was thinking of trying it out on my Fluxbox only IBM T23 with

which translates to the AntiX 8.5 Full Iso with Icewm removed. I was wondering if the Ubuntu logo .deb file would suffice for install or should I go for the source .tar.gz.

I mention this because the read me for the source file says

To build qtfm from source run the following in this directory:

>qmake (or maybe 'qmake-qt4' depending on your distro)
>make

and I have

If you install qtfm through your distro as a package then everything should be taken care of already.

If you build qtfm from source you can simply run the binary from the build directory, or to install it
run the following:

>sudo make install

This will basically:

- copy the qtfm binary to '/usr/bin'
- copy 'qtfm.desktop' to '/usr/share/applications'
- copy './images/qtfm.png' to '/usr/share/pixmaps'
- copy translations to '/usr/share/qtfm'
- copy docs to '/usr/share/doc/qtfm'

I know this may be a dumb question but I am on meds from the Dentist office today so my head is foggy a bit still.

"make" I have as you can see and I know to run it as # from terminal inside the extracted tar.gz but if I don't build the binary with qmake first so kinda a catch-22 for me if not being able to use the .deb

I like it, small but yet combines the main features I like between thunar and pcmanfm, they are custom actions and tabs __{{emoticon}}__ . There is however a downside with this to me. It appears that there is no way so access smb shares.

Liking it already. I plugged in my external pcmcia 2 port USB and 2 port firewire card and booted up first.
After logging in I plugged in my USB Kingston Data Traveler I have into the pcmcia card and opened qtfm.

Was quite pleased with the automount and playing one of the anemia's I have on the usb.

No permission problems.

Maybe make a suggestion to the devs to add that feature...then qtfm could be a kickass alternative to thunar or pcmanfm or even roxfiler

Done.. Sent a message asking if it is currently possible without our knowledge, and if it is not that they may consider adding it.

On a P233 and a K6 400MHz, antiX-M11-486 full, cannot get qtfm to start up.
From terminal as user or as root, ‘qtfm’ command gives message “illegal operation”.
Could that mean not for PI or K6 cpus?
On a P4 and an AMD Athlon 1400MHz, works fine. A worthy filemanager to keep an eye on.

I think the deb was made by the guy that did debreate (a GUI to make deb files) so maybe it's not completely standard and not truly compiled for i386.
But of course, this is just a guess and that problem could be something completely unrelated.

Agreed, could be something else. The same .deb file was successfully used for install elsewhere, and even re-installed it in case there was corruption. Noticed that on the PI/K6 a /home/user/.config/qtfm folder with eg the qtfmconf file was not installed/created. Tried copying over from the Athlon , which also uses antiX-M11-486 and the new antiX-test kernel, but no go. Mystery at moment.

qtfm looks like it has a lot to offer. I tried it on my box and initially was positive about it. I carried on using it and I have come to the conclusion that for gui file managers there are really 2 that stand out for what we want in antiX.

1. Rox-filer
2. xfe

For stuff like samba shares, I'm convinced that those 2 file managers can do it (with extra added apps), we just need to work out how.

Ok, recieved a reply message, he suggests to use network share we should write a script to mount the share in /mnt. He wishes to keeps things trim by not including gvfs and the sort as a dependency.

Thanks from me as well. I installed razor-qt on a test box (using fluxbox) and it all installed just fine.
