I installed redshift-gtk and began to set it up.

Code: Select all

harry@biker:~
$ gtk-redshift -l 30:103 &
[1] 10540
bash: gtk-redshift: command not found
harry@biker:~
$ which redshift
/usr/bin/redshift
[1]+  Exit 127                gtk-redshift -l 30:103
harry@biker:~
$ cat / etc/desktop-session/startup >>>>>>(spacebar hit for space inserted between / and etc because of the forum bug)
#!/bin/bash
volumeicon &

fbxkb &

search-bar-icon &

(sleep 5 && toram-eject) &

spacefm -d &

gtk-redshift -l 30:103 &

harry@biker:~
As you can see. Debian has changed things since we did this in wheezy

redshift-not-working-t4479.html

Here is the read me from Debian on file in my laptop after the install

Code: Select all

harry@biker:~
$ cat /usr/share/doc/redshift/README.Debian
Autostart of gtk-redshift
-------------------------

Autostart was removed from Debian package because of violation of 'Desktop Application
Autostart Specification' (see bug #619699). If you want gtk-redshift autostarted please
configure this in your specific desktop environment (e.g. by placing
/usr/share/applications/gtk-redshift.desktop in
$HOME/$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/autostart/
(usually defaults to $HOME/.config/autostart).
harry@biker:~
So,
Autostart was removed from Debian package because of violation of 'Desktop Application
Must be what is stumping me on this not working for me on Jessie.

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://jonls.dk/redshift/"
linktext was:"http://jonls.dk/redshift/"
====================================

Note: Before version 1.8 redshift-gtk was known as gtk-redshift.

Code: Select all

harry@biker:~
$ apt search redshift
Sorting... Done
Full Text Search... Done
awscli/stable 1.4.2-1 all
  Universal Command Line Environment for AWS

gtk-redshift/stable,now 1.9.1-4 all [installed]
  Adjusts the color temperature of your screen with GTK+ integration

redshift/stable,now 1.9.1-4 i386 [installed,automatic]
  Adjusts the color temperature of your screen

redshift-plasmoid/stable 1.0-1 i386

Now you see why I am ver-klept with confusion. __{{emoticon}}__

Installed stuff below

Code: Select all

harry@biker:~
$ sudo -i
[sudo] password for harry:

The /home/harry/.config/redshift.conf I just created myself. But for now is just a blank file. Empty of text.
I am not sure what to place in it per the authors example file shown on his site.

Code: Select all

; Global settings for redshift
[redshift]
; Set the day and night screen temperatures
temp-day=5700
temp-night=3500

; Enable/Disable a smooth transition between day and night
; 0 will cause a direct change from day to night screen temperature.
; 1 will gradually increase or decrease the screen temperature.
transition=1

; Set the screen brightness. Default is 1.0.
;brightness=0.9
; It is also possible to use different settings for day and night
; since version 1.8.
;brightness-day=0.7
;brightness-night=0.4
; Set the screen gamma (for all colors, or each color channel
; individually)
gamma=0.8
;gamma=0.8:0.7:0.8
; This can also be set individually for day and night since
; version 1.10.
;gamma-day=0.8:0.7:0.8
;gamma-night=0.6

; Set the location-provider: 'geoclue', 'geoclue2', 'manual'
; type 'redshift -l list' to see possible values.
; The location provider settings are in a different section.
location-provider=manual

; Set the adjustment-method: 'randr', 'vidmode'
; type 'redshift -m list' to see all possible values.
; 'randr' is the preferred method, 'vidmode' is an older API.
; but works in some cases when 'randr' does not.
; The adjustment method settings are in a different section.
adjustment-method=randr

; Configuration of the location-provider:
; type 'redshift -l PROVIDER:help' to see the settings.
; ex: 'redshift -l manual:help'
; Keep in mind that longitudes west of Greenwich (e.g. the Americas)
; are negative numbers.
[manual]
lat=48.1
lon=11.6

; Configuration of the adjustment-method
; type 'redshift -m METHOD:help' to see the settings.
; ex: 'redshift -m randr:help'
; In this example, randr is configured to adjust screen 1.
; Note that the numbering starts from 0, so this is actually the
; second screen. If this option is not specified, Redshift will try
; to adjust _all_ screens.
[randr]
screen=1
