mostly sites the new gtk 3.20 as having broke too much stuff, including the geometry option.

note the maintainer talks about removing roxterm from debian.

I upgraded antiX-15-b5 via sid and noticed the roxterm problem. but also issues with IceWM. jwm, conky

gtk-3.20 is a major change apparently. the xfce guys are saying they are writing to 3.14 for their next release, despite 3.20 already being in stretch.

While it was (is) not the most lightweight in terms of resources, it made up for it by the ease of configuration/handling. Everything could be done via its menu bar including font management. That made it really simple to use, especially for novices. Perhaps we might be able to find something similar (menu bar config etc), possibly even lighter?

How about sakura or lilyterm? Or lxterminal?

Totally agree with this post, I hope a similar substitute is found.

I'm kinda digging lilyterm, especially now that I've figured out how to remap the cut and paste keystrokes to something more standard.

The lightest (but it is more limited) is lxterminal. It looks easy for new users to the terminal.

We don't need to decide for antiX-16. But we will need to for antiX-17

I agree that both lilyterm and lxterminal rank ahead of sakura.

If we do eventually opt for either of the above, my view is we should ship it with preconfigured settings of CTRL-C and CTRL-V for copy/paste.

A right click in the lilyterm window is used to access the config options rather than a menu bar.


Overall, my personal preference is for lilyterm simply because of the font handling.


antiX-17
Perhaps we might look at adding terminal configuration into the Control Center. This will provide a way of specifying/changing defaults to be used for the account and still allow each terminal app to change the settings while the terminal is open. If this is implemented, we might provide some preconfigured colour schemes, and ship with a high contrast as the default. In my opinion fancy colours and layouts are a highly personal choice that differ markedly from user-to-user. We should ship with a very basic, highly readable default and let the user decide which is their own preferred colour scheme.

worked good on my 256MB ram and 512MB ram IBM low end laptops when I had them.
Just mentioning it since no one else has. It is in AntiX synaptic package manager also.

Right click is for menu/toolbar functions.

Damn I liked Roxterm.

It has been quite a few years since I looked at this one, so have just taken it for a very quick spin in antiX-16 IceWM.
It showed two significant drawbacks for my usage pattern.

1. It picks up the antiX-session pre-configured colour scheme.
   From a superficial look I cannot see a find a way to show fully monochrome using only evilvte controls.
2. After maximizing the window it was not possible to minimize it again to the previous size.
   The window state changed from max to min, but the size of the window did not change. It remained fully occupying the entire screen except for the task bar. Adjusting the size manually by dragging the window corners was unsuccessful.

Agreed, also be advanced enough for things such as dragging/dropping a file or a command onto it where it expands to the path of the file/command. Roxterm had that feature, but would not be a bad idea for a config file that is easy to edit to set options.

lxterminal looks like the translation often. This is a lot of users can improve the operability.

Having seen this thread sometime after my first antiX install, I tried LilyTerm and LXterminal. I will put my vote in for LXterminal. The defaults seem sane and it is pretty easy to configure a bit. It may not be the best for some of you power users __{{emoticon}}__ but, for the less technical Linux users and those new to Linux/antiX, it seems like a pretty solid choice.

That being said, whatever ends up in antiX-17, I'm sure it will be awesome out of the box.
