Hi
I have ben running xfce now for a few days and have had no problems I am also able to set up and moniter my Linksis pcmcia card with RutilT I was unable to do this with wcid or wpagui in ICEWM. I can also read my usb drives without needing root privliges which was another thing that was giving me truble in ICEWM.
I am using an old 866mgh Intell processor on an old Sager laptop with ATI 3d mobil vidio.

all I did was download GDM and the XFCE desktop with Synaptic and set up XFCE the way I wanted it.
only ANTIX and Damb Small Linux and older versions of MEPIS will boot with the proper vidio on this machine
Thanks to everyone who made this old laptop up to date with Debian repositorys and flash vidio.

Hi. Was wondering if you are running XFCE version 4.6 or the newer version 4.8 (4.8 is available by using the testing repositories) Also how is the printing? Was it easy to set up? I have a version of Antix on the way to me via mail. Will be stting it up as my"primary" computer system if all goes well. Have a great day and thanks for the info in advance. __{{emoticon}}__

Hi rebal
I found xfce easy to set up and for my hardware on this laptop it works fine. you will notice that you can not change the look of icewm program windows but for me that is a small price to pay. icewm is a bit faster and defanatly more stable with antix. printing dependes on your hardware i use a epson cx8400 scanner-printer and it works fine.
I use the stable debian repositories.

Wondered which repositories you were using. I have SimplyMepis 11 using KDE4 and what I did was download xfce use that as the inerface/GUI so I could also use the KDE applications as well. Like you I have the stable repositories. Since I am a hard core"dial upper" I noticed that Antix 11 has a bit of a hassle. I need to run gnome-ppp in"root mode" or I cannot connect. Wonder if there is any way of corrceting that??

you will still be able to run kde programs as well as free gnu and gnome programs xfce just works but it will inharit the features of the desktop it is added to.
so you will see a diffrence in the apperance of your desktop when run under antix, but all the programs are still functional. I dont use dialup so I dont know what is going on with that I do use wirless and couldent get info on my device with anything other than RutilT wlan manager which is not included in antix but can be downloaded from the debian repositories. you might try kppp but I dont know if it will work I think thay both use wvdial.
