Antix-M8 (basic version) doesn't want to show my selected wallpaper at boot. I get an error"fbsetbg: Can't find wallpaper <path to file>". The wallpaper file has some pictures which are symlinked from another partition, but it did work earlier with no problem. To show my wallpaper now I have to open a root Rox, click the other partition in /mnt, click the directory containing the pictures, then click the wallpaper directory, and then restart, and the wallpaper shows.

Also, initially, the menu > fluxbox > wallpaper doesn't show any wallpapers, but after the above procedure it shows all the installed wallpapers. Then, on next boot, Antix has forgot about the pictures in the other partition again and I have to go through the process again.

I did use chown to set /mnt to dave:dave, and /etc/passwd shows the correct user and group ID#'s. I can't think of anything else to try. ????

Sorry. I was poking around for a different reason and discovered that the 'noauto' option was set in /etc/fstab. I removed the '# dynamic' line, and all the 'noauto's and my wallpaper displays correctly now on boot.

Hello. We also have a utility in the control center called Nitrogen that can be used to set the wallpaper.
menu > desktop > control center > desktop > choose wallpaper
Also, we found a way (with some help from the author) of setting a wallpaper in fluxbox and a different one in icewm so that each wm has its own look.

john

P.S. And if you're not happy with any of the above, we also know of a way to use feh to set the background.

I'm using the base version of Antix-M8, and don't seem to have a Control Centre. Synaptic does show a program called nitrogen, but I'm trying to keep this as light as I can, and I did get my preferred wallpapers, so I'll pass. TVYM anyway :^>.
