I was"backing up" a dvd with k9copy this morning and found myself in a hard lock up. Nothing I could think of would get me out of it so I ended up doing a hard reboot(power button).

When it finished rebooting I found myself at a text login screen. No problem--name--password and then startx and I'm in. The problem is that it will not boot into X on it's own and when I manually start it I find the fonts are larger/different than before.

Before I make it worse I was hoping someone could tell me what to do at least get it to boot into X.

Check that /etc/X11 default-display-manager says /usr/bin/slim

Check that you have an .xinitrc file (still owned by user)

If you have nvidia, you might need to re-install and set it up again.

Check. It's in /home/me

I hope you mean just re-install the nvidia driver and not a total re-install.

I found it. I was poking around and found out the /var/log/slim.log was out of space. Delete it and /var/run/slim.lock and rebooted into fluxbox.

All is well again.

When I tried to cat /var/log/slim.log it was scrolling through the terminal for about two minutes before I stopped it to delete it. It must have been huge.
