I have installed sun java6 jre and the mozilla plugin. It shows in the browser that it is installed, when I type"about:plugins" in the address bar.

But when I try to play a game of chess on Yahoo games, I get the message from Yahoo, that I don' t have Java installed. How can I remedy this?

Have you got the sun-java5-plugin?

You may need to point iceweasel to the correct file.

Try about:config and see where it links to.

Also update-alternatives --config java

As you can see on the screen shot, I have the java6 plugin:

The alternatives command says, that there is only one java: jjava-6-sun.

I guessed I had got it wrong after I posted. I don't use java, so the problem is to do with a sym link (I think) to where iceweasel thinks it sees java and where it is exactly.

Try a Google and MepisLovers for this ie asking where the java in Mepis7 points to in firefox/iceweasel about:config.

Have you enabled iceweasel to use java?

Edit>Preferences>Content>Enable java

That did the trick! Thanks.

I didn' t know that this (manually enabling java) was necessary in Iceweasel, because it' s not necessary in Firefox. In Firefox, installing java-jre and the mozilla plugin is enough.

Now I can play chess on Yahoo Games in Antix, without the Yahoo ads, because Adblock functions fine in Iceweasel.... __{{emoticon}}__
