Hi everyone! I stumbled across AntiX a few days ago after deciding Puppy wasn't quite suitable for my needs, and I'm impressed. __{{emoticon}}__

However, as with most distros, there's always a few niggles. This may be due to me being used to Ubuntu, but when I insert my Kingston 4GB data stick (formatted as FAT32), it isn't automatically being mounted (I'm guessing the automount should be in /media).

But it seems more like an update of a converation already started somewhere before. Could anyone give me a nudge in the right direction, or maybe explain current problems if there are any?

Try pcmanfm instead of rox, since it might pick up the USB stick better. From a terminal, type pcmanfm (I also think it's an option in the menu but I don't have antix up and running now, sorry).

In my experience, pcmanfm works very reliably in mounting USB drives.

You can try this:

In antiX Control Center (from the toolbar or from main menu > Windows > antiX Control Center)
In the Peripherals tab : click on 'Mount Connected devices':
It will pop up a terminal and ask you for root password
This calls mountpy, a utility that detects and mounts devices.

To read the output of the command (the terminal flashes and closes), you would type the command in a terminal as root:

# mountpy

Devices are mounted under /media

That probably isn't the best thread on mounting. Pcmanfm works great for mounting even when rox and control center don't, as lagopus said. You could also try installing thunar and thunar-volman (they are listed in synaptic). They also mount sticks pretty well. If you still have problems with those let us know more about your stick, size and file system, and someone may be able to offer something else. You can also try booting with the stick inserted (I need to do that for a 250GB external drive), but my sticks work well without it.
