Hi,
I have a curious USB flashdrive problem; If i have any USB flashdrives connected to the computer befor a i turn on then after boot up they are detected correctly and everything is fine until i disconnect them. If i then reconnect them they are either not detected or only partially detected, for example i have a 4 gig USB drive that is correctly detected at boot up but if i disconnect it and then reconnect it is not detected at all, another usb drive is the same at boot up but after disconnection and reconnection only the first partition is detected. However my ipod shuffle is correctly detected at all times. What is happening here? Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

I have found, at least with my usb sticks, that if I boot with them connected they are seen under /mnt/???. If I hot plug them they show up under /media/???. This may be at least part of the problem. Do you use Rox or Pcmanfm?

You can use the control center to mount them.

control center > peripherals > mount connected devices

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Using control center > peripherals > mount connected devices (on my system its control center > hardware > mount connected devices) didnt seem to work, however it was showing up errors that i couldn't quite read be cos the terminal disappeared to quickly - is there a command line version?

I have both pcman and rox but both are not much help.

Your help is much appreciated.

I don't know which antiX you are using, but here is a thread on mounting usb in 7.5:

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://antix.freeforu ms.org/fusesmb-loosing-mount-point-webpage-display-pendrive-t1046.html"
linktext was:"http://antix.freeforu ms.org/fusesmb-loo ... t1046.html"
====================================

I can't find the other thread, but I also installed fuse and fusesmb (I don't know if one was already installed), and then I used Control Panel to run fuse on start up - it's just a check box. After this I have never had issues mounting usb.

In 8 test 2. I have to mount all devices using Control Panel, but then the devices show up consistently even when I unplug and plug back in. I'm not at an antiX computer now.

The other thing that helped me in antiX 7.5 and mepis 7 is to label the usb drives. Gparted can be used if you reformat, but I used Windows - Right click > Properties > type in the label.
