Virtualbox problems

Installed Virtualbox on antiX (7.02p1) and when run, it says something about the incorrect Kernel modules, but having looked in the repos (sid) there seems to be no modules available for the installed (Mepis) kernel (2.6.22-18).

Anyone know how i either go about getting the correct modules or (Gulp!) upgrading the kernel to a different (newer) version, if that's at all possible?

Thanks....

I think there is a problem with installing virtualbox-ose version as it wants to intall a new kernel.
I managed to install the proprietary virtualbox version though.

This is what I did. (You may need to remove --purge the virtualbox you have)

1. Install libxalan110 libxerces27 build-essential

2. Add this line to /etc/apt/sources.list

deb
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.virtualbox.org/debian/"
linktext was:"http://www.virtualbox.org/debian/"
====================================
etch non-free

(You might need to disable temporarily the sid/unstable repos)

3. apt-get install virtualbox

4. Add user name to vboxusers in /etc/group

5. Logout/login

6. Open a terminal and type VirtualBox (yes keep the capitals)

There is a problem with installing Virtualbox, and indeed it caused my system to go into"Kernel Panic" mode. __{{emoticon}}__ I booted into antiX using the smp kernel in Grub and found an answer on the Mepis forums (To which you had already replied). After thinking about it, i realised that it was after installing the"modules" package for vbox that i got the kernel panic, so i uninstalled the relevant package but the problems still there. No worries though, i'll go into GRUB in a while & get it sorted.

Thanks for the info re: vbox.... just doing it now, so hopefully it'll be running in a short while. I do love vdi's! __{{emoticon}}__
