I am trying to install M8 base and used the live cd first to check it out. I want to make sure that the wireless works OOB.

My wireless connection defaults to Static IP, but I need DHCP. When I change to DHCP mode and click apply, it tells me that I need to restart my interface for changes to take effect. What the hell does that mean? In addition, when I click ok to the prompt, the network manager sets the IP mode back to static.

It sounds like you are using the mepis network manager. I would try using wicd or ceni. Either one of those two will configure your connection without asking you to reboot.

good luck!

Where would I find those managers, I don't remember any of those options being in the Flux menu?

sorry to make you do extra work- I'm posting this in Antix right now. I was right that wicd wasn't in the Flux menu, but I wasn't aware that ceni was a wireless manager. I got it configured properly without a hitch. Thanks for the help!

I'm glad you finally got wireless to work. The other options I mentioned, wicd and ceni are in the control center, under the network tab. Control center is in the fluxbox menu, under Settings.

Enjoy antix!

wicd is not included included in the base iso. If you want to install it, you may first need to enable the wicd repos.
