Posting this from MX-14.2 non-pae. AntiX 14R a2 successfully boots but the cpu is continually maxed out at 100%,even idling at the desktop. Basically unusable. MX-14.2 idles at 2%.
Would you mind trying this out to verify if this is the same bug that rocky is /was experiencing?

Boot live cd (or install if you were daring enough at 100% cpu) into init level 3 (At the grub line at" 3" without the" )
log in as root ( live cd user root password root )
type: cd /usr/local/bin (press enter)
type: mv desktop-session desktop-session.bk (press enter)
type: wget

and see what happens... hopefully all will be ok.

And the results are..............

Wait for it........

Not good. Did momentarily drop to 93% but was mainly stuck at 100%.

Turned Conky off and according to Htop usage is fluctuating between 40% and 100% at idle. Will briefly drop into the 30's for a second before jumping higher.

hmm must be a different problem than what rocky had... what does htop show as eating the cpu?

Was trying to get a screenshot of Htop but it's still unusable.Even Htop is distorted.

Biggest users appear to be

roxterm -e htop, rox --pinboard=an and icewm.

Just switched to JWM....cpu usage is still high too.

maybe try changing the desktop to space-* or a vanilla window manager?
By the looks of it the rox pinboard is causing the issue... not sure why that would be though

OK I adjusted one thing in desktop-session that makes rox act more like space... could you try the same procedure as above?

Scratch that... something else must be up if just starting roxterm causes it to shoot up.

What if you try urxvt-terminal?

Well, maybe one more quick test. Rebooted back to JWM/Space. CPU good. Launched Roxterm (no Htop) ....cpu still 4%.
Entered Htop in Roxterm....... cpu jumped immediately up to 100%.

Closed Roxterm/Htop. Cpu staying about 80$ or higher.

Switched to Fluxbox....... cpu still around 80%.

Really break time now.

Just for your information..I have been trying out alpha2 and almost everything has worked perfect for me... i tried all the different desktops. and the only fault / problem i came upon was WMii on 3 attempts it has pretty much faild to do anything... 1 time everything seemed like it was cycling flashing on and off conky and desktop, another sort of semi loaded and the Conky was unreadable and I had no fuctions at all, as so on...Flux box and all others worked great..

Just to make sure there was no hardware issues contributing to the runaway cpu problem I've been running a Puppy live cd for a couple of hours.Hardware is apparently ok.

Code: Select all

Processor : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+
Memory : 482MB (240MB used)
Operating System : Puppy Linux 0.00
User Name : root (root)

-Misc-
Uptime : 2 hours, 23 minutes
Load Average : 0.07, 0.20, 0.15
Back to some AntiX testing tomorrow.

sounds familiar (as described in my earlier post) and reading this reminds me to mention (helpful toward debugging?) that during these xsession hiccups, iceWM panel displays a flashing taskbar button for the conky process.

shutdown and reboot while running liveUSB do not actually shutdown and reboot with this system (inxi info from MX, symptom is in antix 14R alpha 2 running live). System stops doing anything with the text"Ready to Reboot" or"ready to shutdown" depending on the scenario. Persistence doesn't matter. I have not installed yet.

In previous versions of antix the default icewm conky had a config item called
own_window_type override.

defined in the icewm-conkyrc file. This is may be related to the flashing conky in the toolbar.

changing desktops while conky is operating in icewm leads to the problem that spacefm icons don't always show up. This is an old problem. No problem so far with fluxbox, although I can't rule it out either. rox pinboard works fine as far as I can tell.

what is the difference between update application menu and update global application menu?
