When I use the antiX-17.a1-stretch-net iso, follow all the instructions , when I do the final reboot, I end up with a blinking cursor in the top left corner.

I do see the cli- sign in flash by before the black screen with the flashing cursor.

Are you sure you edited slim.conf? (if you installed it)

What are you using as a login manager?

Or do you mean you don't see any grub menu after install?

Grub is there.

Now it is showing udev has failed or missing in 3 lines while booting.

Shay - I'm confused.

You booted the stretch iso? You installed to hard drive? Grub menu shows, boot fails? You haven't installed any apps?

iso-snapshot-antix is what you need

Did you install the apps before installing to hard drive?
The steps outlined suggest installing the iso first to hard drive and then installing apps.

Those errors should be harmless enough, so maybe the fault is with lightdm. Can you get to console with Ctrl Alt F1?

Try purging lightdm and installing slim

apt-get purge lightdm
apt-get install slim

Make the changes re slim.conf posted in the initial post

reboot and let me know what happens.

Also just to be on the right page since you haven't mentioned it.

Did yo install to hdd and it booted ok? Then when you added xorg lightdm etc you get the flashing cursor? Or have you always had the flashing cursor?
