Hi, Pierre. Glad you got it going. The first thing you should do is edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file as said here
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://antix.mepis.com/index.php/Main_Page#News"
linktext was:"http://antix.mepis.com/index.php/Main_Page#News"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false . Open a Terminal and type

Code: Select all

su root
(type your password)
nano /etc/apt/sources.list
that will open the file for edition. Note that nano has its own commands like ctrl+F (one character forward), ctrl+B (one character backwards), ctrl+D (delete the character under the cursor), ctrl+O (save), ctrl+X (exit). If you choose like said in the link above to comment (add a '#' sign at the beginning of the lines) all 'testing' lines, your system will be more stable in future upgrades.
After you have edited /etc/apt/sources.list and exited nano, in Terminal (still under 'root' privileges) type

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get install synaptic
if you feel more comfortable with Synaptic.

Hey, did you remind it correctly? __{{emoticon}}__

Sorry, P., but I'm not much technical. If you can't get it going maybe someone can give a hint maybe on booting through the live cd and editing the password. I know in ubuntu you can reset the password at boot time, but I would have to research it again.

Edit - the forum is still with this little bug but you can edit one of your posts if you like.

Pierre, if you remember the username, I think you can just edit /etc/slim.conf (through the live cd) to enable auto login. And then we see how we do for you to reset the password.

You would navigate to /etc/slim.conf in your hard disk and find these lines

Code: Select all

# Automatically login the default user (without entering
# the password. Set to"yes" to enable this feature
#auto_login yes

# default user, leave blank or remove this line
# for avoid pre-loading the username.
#default_user username
then you remove the '#' before 'auto_login yes' and 'default_user username' (replace 'username' for your username).

No.

There is really a problem

I reinstalled it (the 8th or 9th time) and it occurs exactly the same thing.

Are you installing using the French language installer and choosing language as fr_FR?
Do you use a French keyboard?

If you do, then make sure the username and root password can be typed as if it is in English.

Packages update done.

Modification above done and successfully rebooted with automatic username/password. Used Leafpad instead of nano, more friendly...

Synaptic theorically installed but I don't find it in Fluxbox menus.

Installing Wicd in order to suppress ethernet wire, using terminal.

(previous post continuation)

Wicd theorically installed too, but I don't find it anywhere either. I tried to unconnect ethernet but it didn't succeed in connecting in wifi.

I succeeded in calling websites in ethernet with Iceweasel, very nice !...

System time is set to 11:56 (Bios time, I believe), here in Paris (summer time) it's 10:56. Is there any kind of time synchronization with a server or is it entirely manual ?

Can you help me, please ? Thank you.
