antiX needs volunteers to help with translation work.
It was suggested that the control centre be translated (among other things).
So post the translated versions and the language in this 'template':

Edit: When translating, try to make it as short as possible. (around 25 characters including spaces) eg it might be better to write Edit Fluxbox rather than Edit fluxbox configuration files.

Anti:

This is a first stab at a Spanish translation. I'll go over it again and I'm also having someone who is more proficient in technical language, check it for me. So consider them preliminary still.

I tried to reduce the number of articles, and possessive used, but it still looks wordy. Also, some of the words have accents. Were you planning to display those as well?

I'll keep working on it. I also hope that other Antix spanish speakers with more technical vocab than I can comment and improve on this.

Oops, I guess I misunderstood the instruction and thought that Anti wanted the translation in the fomat he posted, with the equal signs, rather than using his template to translate alongside it.

Oh, well, that's easy enough to fix. I'll repost once I've had a had to check it some more and to see if it sounds funny to other spanish speakers, etc.

here is my try in the romanian. i have to tell you that i learned to use the computer in english and i use every software in english. the translation in some romanian softwares is stupid and when i look at it in i can't figure out what does it mean, really, is not because i'm used to english. also in many forums the people argue on translations from some years now and they disagree at this time still. because of me being used to english and the fact that some translation don't seem right to me i stay away from translating stuff. also in romanian language we cannot translate word for word because in english it works to add 2 word one to each other but in romanian sound stupid with no meaning. one example i could find is that in ubuntu's forum in 26 May 2008 they left desktop with no translation in romanian i have to install to find out what is their translation in the last version. here is my translation for now:

Thanks for the feedback.
Don't worry abput 'perfect' translations as they don't exist anyway.
But do make sure that someone opening the cc in your language will have some idea about what the buttond mean.
Using English is fine if there isn't really a translation or the translation seems 'silly'.

wingevil: The red. Opens 2 different apps. The first one opens MEPIS network and the second ceni.
The blue. firehol is the name of the app. Firewall would be ok though.

anticapitalista, wingevil:

when we have two apps for doing the same thing (network, firewall) I suggest to add the name of the application

Here is my translation to french: I do not use verbs (as Pedro did in is spanish translation): it would add one or two words to the label, and it is not the common style for french GUIs.
I tried to follow the translations of KDE, Mepis tools, XFCE

I like your version better, leaving the verbs out. I don't have any experience running operating systems in spanish, so I'm liable to sound clumsy. I think your way sounds better. I'll revise and repost accordingly.

Best regards,

as i said is annoying to translate. if we go with no verbs i'll change mine too. just let me know. IMHO i think is better to leave it in english.

For French it doesn't like:

Fond d'écran
Ecran d'accueil slim
Configuration d'une liaison bas débit

ie the d'...

Is there a way to change it?

This works:

Fond décran
Ecran daccueil slim
Configuration dune liaison bas débit

anti:

about the problem with apostrophe in:
Fond d'écran
Ecran d'accueil slim...

The problem arises when bash interprets the declaration of the 'ControlCenter' shell variable: it stop's at the first quote sign.

Found a solution here:

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========

linktext was:"http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=233066"

Code: Select all

TEXTE="Bienvenue sur le forum d'Ubuntu-fr"
export DIALOG='
<window title="Salut" icon-name="help">

  </vbox>
</window>
'
Yes we have to define a variable for the offending labels, maybe not a bad thing, If you have to substitute the translation in the shell script, it will be easier to maintain with all labels declared in the header, instead of substituting in the context.

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh

LABEL="Fond d'écran"

export ControlCenter='
<window title="antiX Control Center" icon="gnome-control-center" window-position="1">
<vbox>

  <notebook labels="Desktop|Peripherals|System|Network|Hardware">

  <vbox>
  <frame>
    <hbox>
      <vbox>
        <hbox>
          <button>
          <input file>"/usr/share/icons/gTangish-2.0a1/32x32/apps/background.png"</input>
          <action>nitrogen --sort=alpha --no-recurse ~/Wallpaper/ &</action>
          </button>
          <text use-markup="true" width-chars="25">
          <label>'$LABEL'</label>
          </text>
        </hbox>
.............
    <action>EXIT:close</action>
    </button>
  </hbox>
</vbox>
</window>
'

gtkdialog --program=ControlCenter
unset ControlCenter
