Otter Browser is available in AntiX 15 and 16 if you want it. Just enable MX test repo and run a sudo apt-get update

Code: Select all

harry@biker:~
$ apt search otter-browser
Sorting... Done
Full Text Search... Done
otter-browser/mx 0.9.12-0mx150+1 i386
Web browser controlled by the user, not vice-versa

harry@biker:~
$ inxi -r

           deb http://antix.daveserver.info/jessie/ jessie main nosystemd

Just be sure to Comment out/disable MX test repo after installing Otter browser. You don't want to break your install by leaving the MX test repo on when doing a dist-upgrade on AntiX. As always. Do a sudo apt-get update AGAIN after turning off the MX test repo after the Otter browser install. Something that I am now going to do next after this post. Because I am not going to install it. I only am showing this for info.

Thank you for the info @rokytnji. For the moment I will wait for try Otter, it seems not better than Qupzilla, I think.

After try all this browsers the only solution for this limited laptop is, without improve the harware, the same that the @thriftee's solution:

To use Dillo for some specific webs and Qupzilla or Palemoon, with flash and publicity block enabled.

Nothing better unfortunately __{{emoticon}}__

I wonder if there is some automatic or even semi-automatic or even speed-key way we could use to tell the system to use a different browser all the time for certain sites?

Your opinion?

Thanks Rademes. No exactly these articles, but yes I have information about. I have tried even Vivaldi (a very interesting and fast web browser) in a more powerful machine.

After read the articles I think we have good web browsers in Linux, the problem is the segment of old limited machines around 8-10 years.

I think the winner is Qupzilla, something lighter and not buggy is difficult to find.

Min (the sing Star __{{emoticon}}__ ) seems to be a candidate.

Get the ram from wherever you want.

Crucial is Microns website. Good ram.
Finally I have got a 2Gb RAM card. I had unfortunately only one slot for the RAM card but now I have 2Gb (before 1Gb)

And yes, with the new HDD and 2Gb of RAM this machine is going better and I can surf more flowly! This is still a modest laptop, but a very useful laptop now.

Thanks!!

Hi ile,
Thank you! I did not know this machine had other RAM slot!
I have changed the this internal primary RAM just now. Was a 512Mb card and now is the 1Gb card.

However the RAM looks the same: 1.96 Gb in Conky and 2008 Mb in Htop.

What is this primary RAM card? __{{emoticon}}__

hello Aleph
Machine's courteous and forgiving motherboard has started even with too much ram. luck. internal slot one. on bottom with case-cover slot two; It helped you find the maximum.=2GB. To avoid complication in future ,, limit installed ram to 2G. try slot one with the 2G stik with slot two empty or match pair of oneG. ? is 2G faster than the 1.5G that is now revealed was installed? is convenient that it operates with extra ram installed. good machine.

@ile, I installed the 2Gb ram stick in the slot 1. Now the slot 2 is empty.
The machine shows 1, 96Gb ram in Conky.
I think the laptop run faster now, I hope is not placebo...

Then
- The limit for this machine is only 2Gb ram?
- I'm surprised, why before the laptop showed 1Gb RAM? it was 1.5 Gb factory installed ...? __{{emoticon}}__

Triple checking, 4 GB seems to be the limit. My bad.
